Jimny: Inspired by #TrueStories

Sometimes there are no roads to where you have to go. No maps to where you need to be. The only bond that you can count on, is the one between you and your machine.

On such treacherous paths, you often hear about the legends of Jimny, whispered by the wind. Tales that have been passed down from generation to generation, since 1970. Tales of overcoming insurmountable odds. Tales of resilience. Tales of the ones who wouldn’t stop, wouldn’t turn back, and their Jimny.

These are few of the #TrueStories which have been inspiring generations for more than half a century, to venture deeper, climb higher, and go further than ever before

Helping dig up 900,000 years of history

Sima de los Huesos, also known as The Pit of Bones, is a UNESCO World Heritage site in Spain. The Human specimens found there are expected to be a new Hominid species and archaeologists have dug up fossils dating many millenniums. However, going back 900,000 years was never going to be easy.

Only a powerful off-roader could take up the challenge and live up to it. The Jimny went through rocky terrains, muddy pits, and narrow passages to help ferry 300 specialists from over 22 countries. It went where no other vehicle could, to unearth history and become a part of it

Coming to the rescue of emergency services during Storm Filomena

In January 2021, Madrid experienced the worst snowstorm in its history. The entire city was buried under a metre-thick sheet of snow. Cars, ambulances, and even tow trucks found it impossible to step out during the storm. Only a resilient off-roader like Jimny could tear through the snow and provide help.

It not only pulled out stalled vehicles and aided rescue operations, but also drove through three feet of snow and a fierce blizzard, to bring home newborn baby Maria. By the time Storm Filomena ended, Jimny had already become part of Madrid’s local folklore.

Conquering the five highest peaks of Africa

There’s always risk when it comes to extreme sports. After an unfortunate accident during a paragliding trip, an avid adventurer struggled through severe injuries. However, he didn’t give up. He not only relearned how to walk but set out to conquer a higher, more challenging goal.

Along with his wife, he hopped in his beloved Jimny and traversed the length and breadth of the African continent. They conquered the five highest peaks of Africa, including Mt. Kilimanjaro–an unforgiving altitude of 19,340 feet!
